During his career as the lead singer, guitarist, songwriter, and founding member of the 1960s counterculture's iconic, psychedelic band, The Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia's artwork was not in the limelight. However, Jerry Garcia's prints, in the form of lithographs, have become popular among collectors since his art was first introduced at The Weir Gallery in 1987. Born in San Francisco in 1942, he was an artistic child, who in the summer of 1957, attended the California School of Fine Arts and received his first guitar. In 1965, he moved to Palo Alto where The Grateful Dead was founded.

Jerry Garcia's artwork includes over 2,000 pieces of mostly sketches and watercolors from which lithograph prints are produced. He always painted only for himself and his own enjoyment.
