HONORIO GARCÍA CONDOY (Zaragoza, 1900 - Madrid, 1953). Untitled. Paris, 1950. Ink on paper. Signed, dated, located and dedicated in the lower right corner. Size: 31 x 24 cm; 45 x 38 cm (frame). Julio García Condoy was the eldest of the seven children of the Valencian painter Elías García Martínez. Like some of his brothers, Julio showed a great interest in painting and the world of art, which is why he began his training at a very early age. In 1900, under the tutelage of his father, who was a teacher, he began his academic training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Saragossa. During his studies he exhibited on several occasions and entered several competitions in the hope of receiving a scholarship and furthering his training. In 1909 and 1910, he held two individual exhibitions in the shop of José González, where his painting was warmly received by the public. After this success he continued to show his work and took part in the regional exhibitions of the following two years, until he was finally awarded a prize by the Diputación and was able to travel to Paris. In 1913 he travelled to Italy to continue his studies, although he had to return due to the outbreak of the First World War. However, despite his short stay, his work underwent a great aesthetic transformation, using classical models and a new pictorial palette. After returning from Rome, he decided to move to Madrid. He continued to exhibit in both regional and national exhibitions. Throughout his career he was awarded many prizes for his interpretation of regionalism based on a refined classicism.
