          James Britton Gantt (Missouri, 1911-1984) Circa 1938 The pair of two-sided works on paper include a detailed 1930s supper club interior scene where a four-piece group plays while couples populate booths and a waitress passes by. One of the band members' hat, coat and instrument case are thrown on top of the piano. The work is signed and dated lower right. The opposite side depicts a rancher and an orphaned calf. A second two-sided sheet has figure sketches each side, no signature. These 'Kansas City School' works from that Golden Era are worthy of preservation. Sheet sizes are 10.5 x 13.25 and 12.75 x 15.5 inches. AN ABSENTEE BID PLACED IN ADVANCE COULD LOSE TO A LIVE BID OF EQUAL AMOUNT PLACED LATER.           James Britton Gantt (Missouri / Kansas, 1911-1984) Still Life with Ceramic Owl 1939 The egg tempera on panel is signed lower right. This work comes from a member of the artist's family who provided the following, 'The ceramic owl seen in the. still life was made by KCAI colleague and good friend, John Wisely. (My younger sister has the piece, though one 'ear' is chipped.) Father's correspondence over the years with Wisely had him living and exhibiting stone sculptures in NYC.'
