Spencer Repeating Arms Company introduced the first widely used repeating shotgun ever marketed in 1882, pre-dating Winchester by 13 years. Experiencing financial difficulty, they sold the rights to manufacture the shotgun to famed military surplus dealer Francis Bannerman of New York and his infamous Bannerman's Island, where he produced these shotguns from 1890 to 1907. Features Damascus barrel, single bead, unusual wood forend, round pistol grip walnut stock and checkered steel shotgun buttplate. Left side of frame is stamped "F. BANNERMAN MNFR NEW YORK USA MODEL 1890" Commemorating the year he started making them. Has unusual two triggers facing each other, very historical in the importance to the development and introduction of the repeating shotgun to America, all subsequent pump action shotguns owe their legacy to the Spencer. CONDITION: Barrel shows good Damascus pattern, brown and grey. Traces of blue on magazine, blending patina. Frame is basically dull grey with age spotting. Frame has been scroll engraved with punch dot. Stocks are excellent with just the usual minor bumps and bruises. Fine, smooth action. Fairly clean bore.
