Gamper visited the Thonet factory in Mundus, Croatia and collected a range of old elements from well-known Thonet designs, and consequently remodelled and reassembled these parts to make the Chair of the Rings. Martino Gamper (Meran 1971)

        Est: €3,000 - €5,000

"Chair of the Rings", 2008 Chair "Chair of the Rings" Bentwood, h. 121 × 52 × 54.5 cm, made by Thonet by order of The Conran Provenance: The Conran shop Paris 2008, private collection The Bolzano designer's chair, whose title is inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, has a very special history. Gamper travelled to the Thonet factory in Mundus in Croatia and used old parts from Thonet models to produce three new models. Based on this prototype, Thonet put the three new models into production, which were exhibited in the Conran Shop in London, Paris and Tokyo. The chair cannot be considered a true limited edition, but due to the fact that it could only be purchased by direct order in one of the Conran shops, it can be considered a limited edition in every respect. Conran estimates that around 15 of each model were sold at the time.
