Titled "Bathers at Jones Beach". This piece is an oil on canvas and was purchased from a NYC collection. Frame work done by Diego Salazar. Ben Galos was born Berel Goloschin in Vitebsk, Belarus. He studied with Marc Chagall, most likely at the Vitebsk Art School established for Jewish art students. Galos emigrated to New York in 1913. Galos painted primarily in oil, and his work included portraits, landscapes, and especially cityscapes. In his 1947 one-man show at the Gramercy Galleries 22 of his 26 paintings on exhibit were urban scenes of New York City and its environs. During the Depression, Galos worked for the WPA. Overall size: 15 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. Size: 9 1/2 x 11 1/2 in. Please note that all sales are final. No refunds will be given under any circumstances.

Ben Galos (Russian/American, 1894-1963), "Downtown Manhattan", oil on board, signed lower right, period "The Marbella Gallery, Inc., New York, NY" label with artist and title en verso, 10 in. x 8 in., framed. Note: Ben Galos was born in Vitebsk, Belarus in September of 1894. He studied with Yehuda Pen and Marc Chagall, most likely at the Vitebsk Art School established by Pen for Jewish art students. Galos emigrated with his family to New York in 1913 and studied at the National Academy of Design. His works were exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, the ACA Gallery, the National Academy of Design (1942, 1945, and 1949), the Audubon Artists, and other locations. Galos painted primarily in oil, and his works included portraits, landscapes, and especially cityscapes. In his 1947 one-man show at the Gramercy Galleries, twenty-two of his twenty-six paintings on exhibit were urban scenes of New York City and its environs, much like the work offered here.
