Her work in pastels has garnered praise and media attention, the most recent of which was her inclusion in a French book, titled 40 Maitres du Pastel/les grandes maitres du pastel 2016.

She had been awarded a month long residency at the presigious artists’ colony, YADDO in Saratoga Springs, NY, and two weeks at Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME.

MY RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

I have been fortunate in my career as a fine art painter. To spare some readers from laboring through a resume, I can offer some recent highlights of my career:

I was selected to be included in the French book, 40 Maitres du Pastel/ Le Livre 2016, published by Pratique des Arts, a Paris based art magazine. The feature of my work is a 6 page article which includes a step-by-step demo. A detail of one of my paintings is also one of three on the cover of the book.
Intersections was a solo show of my work in November 2014, in York, ME at the George Marshall Store Gallery.
New Work, a small solo show of my pastels in July, Greenhut Galleries, Portland, ME.
An 8 page article of my work, which included a step-by-step demonstration, was published in the December 2014 issue, The Pastel Journal.
This summer, I was invited to participate in Pastels en Perigord, a juried exhibit, St. Aulaye, FRANCE. Purchase Award, Pastels en Perigord.
Museum purchase for the Musee du Pastels, St Aulaye, France.

FURTHER HIGHLIGHTS

My work was shown featured in Maine Home + Design July 2012 issue in The Canvas section by Britta Konau. In June 2010, my work was selected for inclusion in the Paris based magazine Pratique des Artes, Hors-Serie Pastel; Tour Du Monde Pastel. Two of my pastel paintings are published in Carl Little’s book, The Art of Maine in Winter and an article about my work was written and published in the February 2008 issue of The Pastel Journal. I also have work in the collection of the Farnsworth Art Museum, and in many corporate and private collections worldwide.

Illustration was my focus of study at Philadelphia College of Art, and although I preferred to take the route of painting as a career, I have, from time to time, indulged in illustration projects, including a number for archaeology. The most recent publication to include my archaeological drawings is The Ship That Held Up Wall Street, by my husband, Dr. Warren Riess. I also created the cover painting and design for his first book Angel Gabriel: The Elusive English Galleon.

About twelve years ago, I began experiencing health problems from working in pastels and oils. Looking for a solution, but unable to find one available, my hero and problem-solving husband and I developed and now produce Artist’s Air, an air filtering system that collects air and impurities at the artist’s easel, filters it, and returns clean air to the studio. This invention solved those problems and I am thrilled to say I no longer experience any discomfort from working with pastels or oils.
