        JOHN MASON FURNASS ENGRAVED ARMORIAL BOOKPLATE FOR JAMES FOSTER OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.

        In 1777 Nathaniel Hurd bequeathed his engraving tools to Furnass (1763-1804), who was his nephew. Signed "J.M. Furnass" l.r. The name "James" inscribed in ink in front of Foster. On paper, 3 7/8 x 3 1/8 inches. Affixed to the inside cover of a leatherbound book. Typewritten note attributes this painting to John Mason Furnass (American, 1763-1804), however, the style of dress is twenty years after his death.
