    Martina Furlong is an abstract and landscape painter, born and raised in County Wexford, Ireland. After graduating from Limerick School of Art and Design with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting she moved to London in 1999. Martina returned to live in Ireland in 2015 and now resides in the Wexford countryside. She works full-time as a professional artist from a studio beside her home. Speaking about her work, Martina states “I paint from the inside out, using the meditative power of painting to create a lyrical interplay of lines, shapes, textures and colours to express my ideas”. This original oil painting on canvas was started on a visit to Kilmlore Quay during the South East Plein Air Festival. It is a an expressive, textured, colourful piece started on location and completed in the studio.

    Heritage Seres 18' is one of the paintings from Martina's Heritage Series. This series of paintings was influenced by sketches and photos of the Irish National Heritage Park in Co.Wexford, Ireland. They are semi abstract paintings combining the lines and shapes of the ring forts, stone circle and megalithic tombs with the organic lines and shapes of the natural forestry and wet woodlands Martina Furlong was born in Co.Wexford, Ireland where she now resides after many years living in London, UK. She received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from Limerick School of Art and Design in 1996. She paints colourful, textured abstracts and landscapes mostly in oils but also uses acrylics and mixed media. They show her love of colour, shape, line and movement. While Martina's paintings are influenced by the things she sees and experiences daily, as a painting progresses her unconscious takes over and it becomes an organic, intuitive process. In her work she likes to mix reality with memories, imagination and intuition and paint her own interpretation of it. She exaggerates colour, applies layer upon layer of paint, then works back into the surface with various tools as well as pallet knives and brushes to create sensuous works of art with a wonderful tactile quality.

Since her return to Wexford in 2015 Martina’s work has been influenced by the things she sees and experiences daily; Irish landscape, books, people, meditation. In her work she mixes reality with memories, imagination and the unconscious to create a personal interpretation of her inner and outer worlds. Martina works in oils, acrylic and mixed media and her technique of applying layer upon layer of textured paint gives each piece a sense of history and a wonderful sensuous quality.
