Melchior Fritsch 1826 Vienna - 1889 Vienna Goatherd crossing a footbridge over an Alpine stream - Resting couple by a torrent Two counterparts. Both signed as well as dated 1873 lower left respectively 1875 lower right. Watercolours on paper. Each c. 45 x 37 cm. Both firmlymatted. Frames slightly damaged. FRITSCH, MELCHIOR 1826 Wien - 1889 ebenda Ziegenhirtin im Gebirge beim Überqueren einer Brücke - An Gebirgsfluss rastendes Bauernpaar Zwei Gegenstücke. Links bzw. rechts in der Darstellung signiert sowie 1873 bzw. 1875 datiert. Aquarell auf Zeichenpapier. Je ca. 45 x 37 cm. Beide fest in Passepartouts montiert. Rahmen besch. Melchior studierte an der Zeichenschule der Wiener Akademie u.a. bei Joseph Höger. Bevorzugt widmete er sich in der Aquarellmalerei der Darstellung von Wald- und Gebirgslandschaften. Diese finden sich in der Gemäldegalerie und der Akademie in Wien sowie im Ferdinandeum, Linz.

He was an autodidact in painting and continued his training during journeys to Tyrol, Styria, Italy, the Orient, Paris and Germany. He was represented in the exhibitions of the Wiener Kunstverein since 1851 as well as occasionally also outward, e.g. in Paris in 1867 and in Berlin in 1886. Fritsch is represented e.g. in the Academy in Vienna and the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck. The historische Museum in Vienna preserves lithographs. Oil on metal Austria, 19th century Melchior Fritsch (1826-1889) - Austrian painter, draftsman and graphic artist Metal plate: 31 x 24.3 cm Good condition One of his very finely executed mountain pieces; the auction record for a painting of a mountainscape by the artist is set at above €8,500 This oil painting by Melchior Fritsch depicts a mountainscape with a rapid stream, running down over the rocks. Trees and rocks are depicted in the detailed manner that is typical for the artist. The main area of this painter of the 19th century was particularly forest and mountain landscapes of his home country, especially the Austrian Alps. The painting is in good condition with abrasions due to the frame. The frame shows tiny bumps and small stress cracks. The metal plate measures 31 x 24.3 cm and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 45.8 x 38.6 cm.
