Elisabeth Frink Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1930 - d. 1993

Sculptor and painter Elisabeth Frink had her first successful solo exhibition at the Beau Arts Gallery in London when she was 22. Elisabeth Frink's prints and lithographs were created with sparse color, minimal detailing of facial features, various stages of motion, and strong shading. Her ability to bring movement and life to her paintings continue to make Elisabeth Frink's prints popular today.

Though she was a talented painter, she is best known for her bronze sculpting. She used abstract elements combined with textured techniques to give life to her sculptures of dogs, horses, and nude male figures. The musculature and emotion conveyed in Elisabeth Frink's sculptures for sale have made her one of Britain’s most acclaimed sculptors. You can browse sculptures and lithographs for sale online by other talented artists at Invaluable to find your next artistic treasure.

Dame Elisabeth Frink was an English sculptor and printmaker. She grew up near an airbase in Suffolk as World War II broke out, exposing her first-hand to the traumas and terrors of war—an element recognized in her work. Frink's art career began to take shape in 1947, when she went to study at Guildford School of Art and then on to Chelsea School of Art. At the age of 22, the Tate purchased her sculpture Bird, inspired by a recurring nightmare about plane crashes. This work led to her association with the artist movement, Geometry of Fear. Frink was elected a full Academician at the Royal Academy in 1979, made a Dame in 1982, and in 1992, Queen Elizabeth II made her a Companion of Honor. Her Times obituary, in 1993, noted the three essential themes in her work as "the nature of Man; the 'horseness' of horses; and the divine in human form".
