Lose Lagen in ill. OUmschlag, in OHLwd.-Chemise mit RTitel (Umschlag und Chemise leicht gebräunt und fleckig), in OPp.-Schuber (dieser defekt). Monod 9048. - Eines von 168 nummerierten Exemplaren auf vélin d'Arches à la forme. Die zusätzliche, gefaltete Original Kohlezeichnung recto und verso gestaltet und in den Doppelbogen des Druckvermerks montiert. - Druck der Lithographien in Sepia und Schwarz bei Desjobert. - Das Werk stellt die erste und einzige Buchillustrationsfolge des Künstlers dar, Friesz starb 1949 in Paris. - Die Zeichnung mit mehrfachen, teils hinterlegten Einrissen und Atelierspuren. Sehr vereinzelt unauffällig fleckig. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten. With a signed original drawing and 40 original lithographs, 37 of them full-page. Loose quires in ill. orig. wrappers, in orig. half cloth chemise with spine title (wrappers and chemise slightly browned and stained), in orig. cardboard slipcase (this defective). - One of 168 numbered copies on vélin d'Arches à la forme. The additional, folded original charcoal drawing designed recto and verso and mounted in the double sheet of the printer's mark. - The lithographs printed in sepia and black by Desjobert. - The work is the artist's first and only series of book illustrations. Friesz died in Paris in 1949. - The drawing with multiple, partially backed tears and studio traces. Very occasional unobtrusive spotting. Overall in very good condition.

Friesz was a member of the Fauves along with Henri Matisse, Andre Derain and Maurice de Vlaminck, and work closely alongside his childhood friend Raoul Dufy throughout his career. Perhaps due to the influence of Cezanne, from 1908 he returned to a more subdued colour palette. In the present work we can see this careful gradation of colour, combined with a loose brushstroke that evokes the sensation of standing before the landscape. Established in 1808, Frost & Reed is one of the oldest art dealers in Britain. Achille Emile Othon Friesz, French, 1879 to 1949, oil painting on canvas depicting a still life with flowers. Signed lower right. Framed. Achille Emile Friesz is known for Fauve and traditional painting, landscape, still life and figure. Achille Emile Othon Friesz, who later called himself just Othon Friesz was a native of Le Havre, was a French artist of the Fauvist movement. He painted in a manner that respected Cezannes ideas of logical composition, simple tonality, solidity of volume, and distinct separation of planes. A faint baroque flavor adds vigor to his landscapes, still lifes, and figure paintings. One of a kind artwork.
