OTA JANEČEK 1919 - 1996 - PORTRAIT OF RICHARD FREMUND

      Est: -

Richard Fremund (April 9, 1928 Prague - May 21, 1969 Prague) was a Czech painter, graphic artist, draftsman and stage designer. The portrait by Ota Janeček comes from before his first solo exhibition. His 1956 exhibition was sharply condemned by official critics. The year 1956 was also significant for Richard Fremund in that he left (with Ota Janeček and František Dvořák) on a three-month trip to Paris. Technique: Oil on canvas, Signed: Lower left "Ota Janeček 1955"

RICHARD FREMUND (1928–1969): LANDSCAPE WITH ELLIPSE

      Est: -

/ 1963 Oil on canvas / Signed and dated on bottom left "Fremund/24. VII. 63". Inscription on back: "Richard FREMUND/'Krajina s elipsou' olej 1963". / 71 x 91 cm This painting presents Fremund at his peak in the latter half of the 1950s. Based on abstract subjects from the cityscape and Czech villages, it is painted in bold oils and with a temperamental style that further highlights the mastery of the painting. The placement of the central scene in a grid, a theme that is featured in a number of his paintings, seems to help orient the eye in the action on the canvas and analyze the work piece by piece.
