    Partial service of Chinese Canton china made expressly for George Francis Train circa 1856. Fifteen pieces total decorated in the famille verte palette with outdoor genre scenes and floral decoration, "T" monograms. To include large open vegetable 4.5" h. x 9.5"; bowl 3" h. x 7" dia (fleabite to rim); two scalloped edge serving plates, 10.5" x 9.5" (one with under rim chip crack); oval platter 10.5" x 8.5" (1" rim chip), oval platter 14" x 11"; three teacups (each with a crack); two saucers 6"; four demitasse cups 2.5" h. (slight variations to size). Descended through the family and acquired from a direct descendant of George Francis Train, an eccentric American entrepreneur and world traveler who ran for President in 1872 as an independent candidate. Previous parts of this service were sold through Sotheby's, lot 195, January 21, 2000. Other pieces reside in the Australian National Maritime Museum. Condition: All with some loss of decoration, primarily the gilt accented monograms, please see above for further condition issues on individual pieces.
