EASY DOES IT depicts a strong contrast between organic color and metallic, geometric lines. The work represents Mertes-Frady’s self-declared interest in “clarity and structure, pared down to essential forms.” ,,EASY DOES IT is abstract, yet still depicts a sense of reality through the calming flow of color and the rigid use of lines. The use of neutral and blue hues stimulate a sense of tranquility, with the metallic silver lines overlapping in the foreground to allude to a sense of structure and power. In the process of creating, Mertes-Frady strives to paint for a “sense of beauty.” ,,~ Danielle Reischman, Student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Master of Arts in Art Market Studies. Artist's Biography Gudrun Mertes-Frady was born in Cologne, Germany, where she received her education in painting and art history at the Kölner Werschule (Academy for Art and Design). She moved to New York in 1981. The artist’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited in the US and Europe over the past twenty years, including in fifteen solo exhibitions. Her work appears in numerous public and private collections, among them the Busch-Reisinger Museum of Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; Rockefeller University, New York City; and the Werner Kramarsky Collection, New York City.
