Parigi, 1857 - 1917 Scena biblica Firmato E Fournier fecit 1887 in basso a sinistra Olio su tela, cm 96X79 Provenienza: Roma, collezione privata Allievo di Cabanel, Fournier ottenne il Grand Premio di Roma nel 1881 ed espose ai Saloni di Parigi, oltre a ricevere medaglie nel 1889 e 1890 all'Esposizione Universale. Nel 1900, ottenne una medaglia al Salon e ricevette la Legione d'Onore. Fu principalmente un pittore di scene storiche e fu incaricato di numerose commissioni statali ufficiali, tra cui l'Istituto e l'Ecole Normale, e lavorì al Grand Palazzo di Belle Arti di Parigi. Le opere di Fournier sono conservate in numerosi musei francesi. Artista dalle grandi qualità pittoriche, ha partecipato a molte attività artistiche su larga scala, il principale del quale è stata la creazione di affreschi per la decorazione del Grand Palais di Parigi, in collaborazione con altri artisti, tra cui Alexandre Falguière. Fournier ha anche creato molti mosaici e fregi, considerate le pietre miliari del tempo nell arte francese. Uno dei suoi affreschi più celebri, Aux gloires du Lyonnais et du Beaujolais è in camera di consiglio nel Consiglio Generale del Rhîne a Lione. Ha anche prodotto una serie di dipinti dedicati alle bellezze di Lione, insieme a molte sculture realizzate in legno. .
