    William Foster Original Oil on Canvas Woman Holding Child Framed. Overall size is 28 x 24 inches. Signed Will Foster. No holes in the canvas. William Frederick Foster (1883-1953) was an American artist and went to the Art Academy and studied with Joseph Henry Sharp and Frank Duveneck. In 1902, he went to New York City where he painted scenery and studied at the New York School with Robert Henri and William Merritt Chase. 1903 to 1931 Foster worded as an illustrator and as taught at the Art Institute of Chicago. He also worked for the major magazines including "Collier's", "The Saturday Evening Post", and "Harper's Monthly". After WWII, he moved to Los Angeles and devoted his time to painting. He taught at the Chouinard School of Art in Los Angeles and gave private classes in his studio. Foster was known to paint the young ladies of Hollywood. William Frederick Foster (1883-1953) was an American artist and went to the Art Academy and studied with Joseph Henry Sharp and Frank Duveneck.
