Birket Foster Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, Illustrator, b. 1825 - d. 1899

Artist M.Foster was popular during the Victorian period, achieving widespread success with both illustrations and watercolor paintings. Born into a Quaker family in northern England, Myles Birkit Foster got his start as an apprentice wood engraver, eventually becoming a master draughtsman and illustrator for books and newspapers. Through his career as an artist, M. Foster counted leading members of the Pre-Raphaelite movement among his friends, and he was encouraged to expand his range and take up painting.

Artist M. Foster's paintings tend to depict idealized rural scenes and children, all shown with gentle naturalism. Foster's artwork can be found today at the Courtauld Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Because of his popularity, the prices of Foster's artwork have increased at auction, but it's still possible to find Victorian watercolor paintings for sale online at Invaluable.
