He came to Venice in 1716 from his native Morcote, near Lugano, and as a young man was a pupil of the architect Domenico Rossi. His work as an architect was mainly devoted to the Scuola and church of S. Rocco... An original and ecletic character. Fossati was involved in a diverse variety of projects, from Scene painting to literature. In 1752 he was commissioned to decorate the nuptial bed chamber of the noblewoman Caterina Loredan. As an engraver he will be remembered for his famous Veduta prospettica di Venezia (1746) and fot the Raccolta di varie favole. His realistic pictures of animals are interesting and unusual; perhaps more admirable are the scenes st amid Baroque architecture in which Fossati could exploit to the full his training and experience as an architect”. 6 volumes in Folio, mm. 300x 220, contemporary full vellum binding, gilt title on label on back.
