  • Brass Water Jug by Hayno Focken, Germany, around 1955
    Jul. 13, 2016

Brass Water Jug by Hayno Focken, Germany, around 1955

    Est: €400 - €520

Brass water jug Germany, around 1955 Hayno Focken (1905-1968) – German silversmith Maker’s mark and label, “Bremer Werkschau Bremen Böttcherstraße”, on the underside Works by Hayno Focken fetch up to 6,000 Euros at international auctions Modell Number 966 Hand-chased Made in the artist’s own workshop in Lahr With embossed ornaments and hammer blow decor Height: roughly 29.7 cm Good condition This water jug was designed around 1955 by the German silversmith Hayno Focken (1905-1968) and made in his own workshop in Lahr. The hand-chased brass features a hammer blow decor and an ornamental band all round in the lower third. The artist appears to have been inspired by the works of the Deutsche Werkbund and the Bauhaus. The jug is in good, used condition with age and wear-related surface traces. It features the maker’s mark and the label, “Bremer Werkschau Bremen Böttcherstraße”, on the underside. The height is roughly 29.7 cm. Hayno Focken (1905-1968) Hayno Focken (1905-1968) was an eminent German metal artist. He completed his training under Professor Karl Müller (1888-1972) at the design and arts school on Giebichenstein Castle in Halle (Saale), which was strongly tied to the ideals of the Deutsche Werkbund and the Bauhaus. In 1932 he established his own workshop in Lahr/Schwarzwald and continued his work until shortly before his death. His artistic work always stood out with a strong preference for large, organic forms, a similar manner of surface design and the same adherence to the principle of handicraft. Even his artist signet was modelled on the simple, square castle mark. In the 1950s he became one of those significant artists who had a major impact on contemporary metal design. The foundation of his creative work was a masterful understanding of proportions. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
