          The British art director and graphic designer Alan Fletcher is probably best known for his Logos for the Victoria and Albert Museum and the news agency Reuters! Like many grafic designers he has also been involved in product design. The inspiration for this ashtray came from Dutch Edam Cheese. The designer visulised its serrated teeth both holding the cigarette and locking two identical parts together. This is a rare original from the late 1960s! signature Both bowls are signed with: ''mebel, Italy des. A. Fletcher''.

          ALAN FLETCHER (1931-2006) D & AD 21ST. 1983. 33x23 1/2 inches, 83 3/4x59 3/4 cm. Schwegler A.G., Zurich. Condition B+: creases and minor abrasions in margins and image. Hand-signed by the artist. Paper. Renowned British designer Alan Fletcher was a founding partner in Fletcher, Forbes Gill in the early 1960s and helped provided sophisticated advertising to such important clients as Reuters, Pirelli, Olivetti and Penguin Books. In the following decade, Fletcher was one of the founders of Pentagram, and then went on to start his own company. He was also one of the founding members of The Design and Art Directors Association. For their 21st anniversary, he pays tribute to one of the great advertising icons of the 20th century (Cassandre's Dubonnet man) and adds Popeye-like biceps to the figure, suggesting the incredible strength that advertising can carry.
