Friedrich Fleischmann was a German painter, graphic artist and engraver. He is also regarded as an important steel engraver who was the first to introduce this reproduction technique in the Nuremberg school of engraving. Friedrich Fleischmann created almost 2000 engravings, most of them directly "[...] from nature", which "[...] are of value because of their striking conception". Drucke nach Gemälden deutscher, flämischer und italienischer Altmeister in der Sammlung des Nürnbergers Verlegers Friedrich Campe (1777-1846), unter anderem einer von Campe 1816 erworbenen Kreuzigung, die damals als Gemälde Dürers galt. Ausgezeichnete bis ganz ausgezeichnete Drucke mit Rand, an zwei Seiten mit Schöpfrand. Minimale Gebrauchsspuren, leicht stockfleckig und in den Außenrändern vereinzelt schwach fingerfleckig, sonst in schöner und originaler Erhaltung. Nach Radierung von Friedrich Fleischmann (1791-1834), → Dokumentationsabb. Nürnberg, August 1828, Grundlage für das Erscheinungsbild des rätselhaften Findlings Kaspar Hauser (1812-1833), aufgefunden in Nürnberg am 26. Mai 1828. Von diesem grundlegenden radierten Porträt Fleischmanns ist eine zeitnahe Nachzeichnung bekannt – aus der Feder des Augsburger Künstlers Johann Georg Laminit (1775-1848). Als weiteres zeitgenössisches Dokument zu dem Bildnis Kaspar Hauser kommt nun überraschend die vorliegende Zeichnung des Frankfurter Zeichners Heinzlmann hinzu, die Gesichtszüge des Porträtierten gegenüber der Fleischmann-Vorlage etwas entdramatisiert und dem Alter des ca. 16jährigen Kaspar Hauser angeglichen.

Im Digitalen Portraitindex sind drei Varianten dieses Portraits verzeichnet: eine anonyme, eine sign. "G.Scherell sc." und eine monogr. "J.Fr.". (möglicherweise korrekt "F.Fr." für Fleischmann Friedrich).
