An original large impressionist oil on canvas landscape painting titled "Stone Walls of Vermont" by William Fisher (American, 1891 - 1985). Comes with a plaque mounted on front of the frame, stating artist name, title of the painting and "Art Award 43-44". Depicting a mountain scene landscape with red buildings scattered throughout the meadow bellow, and an old stone wall as the main focal point. Signed "William Fisher" to the lower-left corner. Overall very good to excellent condition, with minor age related wear to the frame, which does not distract from its original beauty. William Fisher, 1817 - 1895 Portrait of Percy Ellen Frederick William Smythe, 8th and last Viscount Strangford (1826-1869), Portrait of the Hon. Philippa Eliza Sidney Smythe (died 1859), daughter of the 6th Viscount Strangford, after wife of the Hon. Henry James Baillie MP (1803 - 1885). Oils on panel - a pair, Inscribed with the identity of the sitters on contemporary labels on the reverse. Trade labels on the reverse from the panel maker, Charles Roberson, 51 Long Acre, London. These labels can be dated between 1828 and 1855. William Fisher exhibited a group portrait of the Children of Henry Baillie MP at The Royal Academy in 1850. William Fisher was born in Cork and showed promise as an artist from an early age. In his youth he travelled to Italy and became a Member of the Florentine Academy. He moved to London in 1840 and exhibited at The Royal Academy and The British Institution. Between 1843 and 1862 he sent 15 works to The Royal Hibernian Academy. He painted portraits and figure subjects. His work can be seen in The Cork Art Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery in London. 21 x 17¾ inches (oval) 54 x 45 cm.

William Mark Fisher RA (1841-1923), 'A SOUTHERN

William Mark Fisher RA (1841-1923), 'A SOUTHERN GARDEN' Signed l.l., watercolour 23 x 29cm Exhibited: Anglo-American Exposition, 1914. Fisher was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1841 and studied under George Cass and George Innes. He travelled to Paris, where he met many other artists, including Alfred Sisley. In 1872, he left France for England, where he would not only take up permanent residence, but also find great success. He lived initially in London, but soon found the countryside was more to his liking and moved to Sussex. By 1901, he was living in Hatfield Heath, Essex, where he would remain for the rest of his life. He was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy, showing more than 100 works. Fisher is considered one of the first artists to bring the Impressionist style to England and was described by George Moore, in 1893, as 'England's greatest living landscape painter'.
