        HAM FISHER

        Est: $150 - $200

HAM FISHER American cartoonist, creator of the popular strip "Joe Palooka". Scarce A.L.S. "Ham" 2pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d.] in pencil with a great sketch of his title character about to be socked in the face. Fisher writes, in part: "Pardon the pencil but darn you I can't refuse you and I'm so rushed I have'nt [sic] time to find a writing pen. Good God! I've just been trying to answer over a thousand requests from drawings and autographs. Do you realize I work seven (7) days a week on an average of twelve hours a day and that when I might be seeing a show or eating a meal I get grand letters like your and wonder when and how I can answer. But I'm not squawking. I love it! And I only wish I could somehow get the time to drop in the hospital and say hello some time. If I ever get up that way I will too. I hope you still like the strip. Any time you have a criticism drop me a line. I need an intelligent Kick in the pants occasionally and I have a great respect for your judgment. If you really want to do a slight something for the Palookas, suppose you drop a line to (Burrows Mathews) Editor the Courier and tell him what the bunch at the hospital think of the strip...". At the bottom right Fisher added a note that he subsequently erased concerning his correspondent's desire to use one of Fisher's illustrations in another magazine. Usual folds, else fine condition.
