Edward Loyal Field Art for Sale at Auction

Landscape painter, Etcher, Illustrator, b. 1856 - d. 1914

Etcher and landscape artist Edward Loyal Field was born in 1856 in Illinois. Field moved to Paris, France, to study under Carolus-Duran at the Academie Julian. He came back to the U.S. in 1882, and lived in Manhattan the rest of his life. Field was a member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York and the Boston Art Club.

Although his work is known as Tonalistic, artist Edward Loyal Field's landscapes often depict rays of light on a clump of trees or a small part of the scenery, giving the illusion of drama to an otherwise unimpressive view. Characterized by impasto techniques, which left a tactile surface on the canvas, painter Edward Loyal Field gave his landscapes a stimulating 3D effect. Field exhibited his landscapes regularly in Boston, Washington, and San Francisco, among others. Consider these dramatic landscapes for sale at auction and bring the countryside into your home.
