Framed & Signed R. Farrington Painting of Taos - 1960s

Robert Farrington (American, 1924-2011),"Taos Pueblo, New Mexico" oil on canvas, signed and titled at lower left, c. 1960s. An expressionist painting of the Taos Pueblo, replete with stylized adobe homes replete with vigas and ladders, daylit by the lemon-yellow orb-shaped sun. Note how the people standing before the buildings suggest that these structures possess a lofty scale. The Taos Pueblo is the oldest continuously inhabited community in the US and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Note how tall the rearmost adobe is in Farrington's painting; some Taos Pueblo edifices are as high as five stories. Taos, New Mexico has a rich history of art and culture, with many modern artists moving there in the early 20th century followed by another wave of artists, Farrington among them, in the 1950s. Size: 23.875" W x 20" H (60.6 cm x 50.8 cm); 26.125" W x 22.125" H (66.4 cm x 56.2 cm) framed. Robert Farrington attended the Corcoran School of Art in the 1940's - studying under Richard Lahey who was a student of the Robert Henri, leader of the New York Ash-Can School, traveled to Europe and the Far East, and upon his return, resided in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos, New Mexico, later moving to California where he depicted Venice Boardwalk among other sites. Farrington adored the "Beat" movement and captured the creative spirit of Venice beach in his art. Attached to the verso of this piece is a profile of the artist that in addition to a brief biography shares that collectors of Farrington's work included Hollywood luminaries such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett, Gene Autry, and Jackie Collins.
