The copy features the following 14 engravings (out of 19) separately, fresh and well preserved (those in the first and second volumes in copperplate and the rest in xilography): Volume I: Santa Helena, Cochin, Quiloa, Cananor, Sofala, Goa , Malacca, Hormuz, Chaul, Vasai and Diu. Volume II: [Island of Mozambique, Daman, Manar, Mangalor, Onor, missing] and Bangalor. Volume III: Muscat and Macao [wooden engravings]. The collation of each volume is as follows: I - [32], 396, [42] p; volume II - [8], 968, [2] p. III - [8], 564, [4] p. The three volumes also feature three engraved frontispieces and numerous copperplate and xilographic prints, integrated into the text, depicting viceroys and other historical characters. All engraved titles with scratched oval stamp, the first volume with restoration on the verso. The three volumes, cropped, with slight browning and occasional stains. Handwritten ownership of Antonio de Sande Machado (1725) and Barreto Alpoim (in all volumes). Full sheepskin bindings, 18th century, slightly worn. Inocêncio, V, p. 416. Auvermann, 493.       MANUEL DE FARIA E SOUSA - 1590-1649, EVROPA PORTVGVESA (Portuguese Europe), CORRECTED, ILLUSTRATED SECOND EDITION added with so many places and such advantages of this new work. SOUSA, Manuel de Faria e. in Lisbon: A costa d'Antonio Craesbeeck de Mello, H.R.H Printer, 1678-1680.- 3 vols.: il.; 27 cm.- E. A complete set. The first two volumes, dated 1675, in the original edition (the engraved frontpage of the second volume belongs to a variant) and the third volume in the second edition, dated 1680. The first volume closes a history of the world since its inception until the foundation of Portuguese nationality. The second and third are made up of the history of the various reigns, respectively up to Kings D. João III and Philip III, including the intact portraits of all the monarchs (22 intaglio engravings), including that of Count D. Henrique. The collation of the first two volumes is as follows: volume I - [8], 491, [1] p .; Volume II - [8], 224 (alias 624) p .: 16 portraits. The pagination of the third volume shows a jump from p. 240 to p. 341. The cover pages of the first two volumes are intaglio engraved; That of the third is typographed. First and third volume with manuscript ownership of the time: From Diogo de Fon [se] ca to Pinto de Albuq [uerqu]e and (probably the chief captain of the town of Trancoso in the second half of the 18th century). The third volume presents a shorter second folio and notebook S (6 sheets), indicating that they have been added from another copy. The three volumes with slight acidity. The specimen has the following 19 separate engravings, fresh and well kept (those of the first volume intaglio engraved and the remaining woodcuts): Volume I - Saint Helena, Cochin, Quiloa, Cananor, Sofala, Goa, Malacca, Ormuz, Chaul , Baalim and Diu; Tomo II - Mozambique Island, Daman, Manar, Mangalor, Onor and Bargalor; Volume III - Muscat and Macau. The collation of each volume is as follows: I - [32], 396, [42] p; Volume II - [8], 968, [2] p. III - [8], 564, [6] p. Although the bibliographies and catalogues consulted do not give strict indications as to the engravings, we are not aware of any copies with greater number of engravings. The three volumes also have three engraved frontispieces and numerous woodcut and intaglio engravings, integrated into the text, representing viceroys and other historical characters. The third volume includes, in the end, a rare errata sheet. The frontispiece of the first volume trimmed to the head and with imperfect outer margin, with prejudice of the engraved image. The three trimmed volumes with slight acidity but in general, clean and solid. 18th century entire calf binding, slightly fatigued, with large boards. Innocent, V, p. 416. Auvermann, 493.
