    Ivan Exner is one of the most respected contemporary Czech artists. He was greatly inspired by Italian Renaissance art, but he never followed global trends and tried to find his own ways and unique artistic expressions. In the 1990s, several compositions appeared in which neoclassical morphology turns into abstraction and reality is represented by a simplified sign or pictogram.     Ivan Exner was born in Pardubice and devoted himself to painting, typography and graphics. We can consider the still life as the main theme of his painting work, where both the creative imagination and the craft component of painting are connected, when the picture is executed with absolute precision, a lot of glazes, a perfectly thought-out composition, format and frame. "I move forward by looking back." Drawing from the techniques of the old masters thus represents a logical response to a contemporary artistic trend, often freed from the descriptive component.
