    Est: £100 - £200

Abraham Wilhelm Eurenius (1830-1892) / PANORAMAS OF STOCKHOLM, c.1880 Abraham Wilhelm Eurenius (1830-1892) PANORAMA VIEW OF STOCKHOLM, c.1880s. Albumen prints (6), each approx. 165 x 210mm, overall measuring 168 x 1280mm, flush-mounted onto gilt-boarded card, published concertina-style with linen joints, bound in gilt-lettered red cloth, titled "Panorama öfver Stockholm". Abraham Wilhelm Eurenius began his photographic career in Stockholm in the late 1850s. He is known to have studied in Copenhagen and to have worked first as a daguerrotypist and engraver in southern Sweden. He became one of the leading photographers working in Sweden in the latter half of the 19th century. The present view is taken from the elevated position of the Katarina Kyrka, looking north over the city from the Maleran in the west to the Satsjön on the east. Together with: PANORAMA OF STOCKHOLM, c.1880 Albumen print panorama in six joined parts, measuring 198 x 1320mm, flush-mounted onto glazed boards, set within a gilt border, with printed title in the lower margin "Stockholm Från Mosebacke [Stockholm], Axel" Lindahls Fotografiaffär." Housed in original black and gilt blocked cloth boards, measuring 386 x 337 mm, slightly faded and foot of spine missing. The Swedish photographer Axel Theodor Lindahl (1841-1906) is most noted for his early photographic views of Norwegian landscapes and documentation of the daily life of the local people. Lindahl was born in Mariestad in southwestern Sweden. With his brother Udo he opened his own photographic studio in Udevalla in 1865. The enterprise proved so successful that within a year, his work was being exhibited exhibited in museums. By 1867 the business had moved to Gothenburg. Once established there, he extended his interest to landscape photography, focusing initially on the Swedish west coast, and then moving into Norway. In 1883 he sold his interest in the studio in Sweden and made Norwegian landscapes his exclusive area of interest, working closely with the publisher Rich. Andvord. Unlike many of his contemporary photographers who emphasized the dramatic nature of Norwegian landscapes, Lindahl sought in to bring to his compositions an appreciation of the aesthetics of the natural world.
