Ebba Von Essen (Hamilton) (20th/21st Century) View of Harbour through Cafe Window Oil on board, 40.6 x 31.8cm (16 x 12.5") Signed with initials and dated '47 Provenance: The Frederick Gallery Christmas Exhibition 2003 Cat. No. 49 where purchased by the current owner. Ebba Von Essen was born in Sweden where her art studies began in Stockholm 1942 - 47. From there she went on to study at the Académie de Beaux Arts in Paris and Copenhagen. In 1949 she studied in Paris under Andre L'hote the teacher of so many of our modernist artists including Mainie Jellett, Norah McGuinness, Evie Hone and Father Jack Hanlon. This picture and the following lot are thought to have been painted in the south of France and lot 25 very much show L'hote's cubist influence. Ebba married Axel Hamilton who became the Swedish Ambassador to Ireland and they settled in Co. Offaly in 1976.
