        ERNST KALTENBRUNNER AND KARL FRANK

        Est: $300 - $400

ERNST KALTENBRUNNER AND KARL FRANK ERNST KALTENBRUNNER (1903 - 1946) SS-Obergruppenfuhrer who headed the RSHA (Gestapo and Kripo) and SD, replacing Reinhard Heydrich. Executed following conviction for multiple war crimes. T.L.S. on his personal SS letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Dec. 4, 1944 to KARL HERMANN FRANK in Prague. In part: "Dear Friend! Sincere thanks for your congratulations upon my commendation by the Fuhrer..." Also lightly initialed in green indelible pencil: "Fr. 11/12" by the recipient, KARL HERMANN FRANK (1898-1946), the ruthless Sudeten German Nazi official in Czechoslovakia, an SS-Obergruppenfuhrer who was executed for his role in organizing the massacres at Lidice and Lezaky. File holes and some tiny spots at right margin, else very good. In December 1944, Kaltenbrunner was granted the rank of General of the Waffen-SS. Other SS General Officers were granted equivalent Waffen-SS ranks in 1944 as well, so that in the event of being captured by the Allies, they would have status as military officers instead of police officials.
