    GUS (1911-1997) Gustave Erlich. French cartoonist, illustrator and caricaturist. A good, small selection of four original pen, ink and blue pencil cartoons drawn and signed ('Gus') by Gus, each one page, oblong folio, n.p. (Paris?), 1961-63. Each of the single panel cartoons are related to Great Britain, one depicting a Franco-English meeting of four men in discussion over Concorde and with the caption ´Un simple detail, gentlemen; au lieu de calcular sur las base de 1000 francs au kilometre, disons plus simplement 14 shillings 12 pence pour 1093 yards 1 pied et 5.2 inches´ (Translation: ´A simple detail, gentlemen; instead of calculating on the basis of 1000 francs per kilometre, let's say more simply 14 shillings 12 pence for 1093 yards 1 foot 5.2 inches´) (1st December 1962), and others making reference to Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones (9th February 1961), the English winter (4th January 1962), and a Nouveau scandale en Angleterre with the caption ´On ne sait plus a qui se fier. Prenez ce gentleman, par exemple´ (Translation: ´You don't know who to trust. Take this gentleman, for example´), dated 13th November 1963 (at the time of the Profumo affair, and in the month following Harold Macmillan´s resignation as Prime Minister, after Profumo had been found by police to have lied in a statement to the House of Commons in which he denied his affair with Christine Keeler). Small selection of four original pen, ink and blue pencil cartoons drawn and signed ('Gus') by Gus, each one page, oblong folio, n.p., February - April 1961. Each of the single panel cartoons feature John F. Kennedy, one showing the young statesman sat on the knee of French President Charles de Gaulle with the caption 'Mon cher John, vous etes maintenant un grand garcon' (Translation: 'My dear John, you're a big boy now'), another depicting him stood in a boxing ring opposite Uncle Sam, wearing boxing gloves, with the caption 'Le Nouveau Manager - Mon petit gars, si serait de toi un champion' (Translation: 'The New Manager - My boy, if I could make you a champion'), and another of Kennedy at his desk welcoming astronaut Alan Shepard home, with the caption 'Kennedy recoit le premier homme de l'espace Americain' (Translation: 'Kennedy receives America's first spaceman').     GUS (1911-1997) GUS (1911-1997) Gustave Erlich. French cartoonist, illustrator and caricaturist. Small selection of four original pen, ink and blue pencil cartoons drawn and signed ('Gus') by Gus, each one page, oblong folio, n.p., n.d. (1960s). Each of the single panel cartoons are dedicated to the theme of espionage and depict various military officers in the company of beautiful seductresses, all with captions to the base including 'J'adore les armes secretes' (Translation: 'I just love secret weapons'), 'J'ai chez moi des dossiers secrets pleins d'estampes japonaises' (Translation: 'I have secret files at home full of Japanese prints'), 'Vous connaissez tout de secrets militaires! Alors, un de plus ou de moins' (Translation: 'You know all about military secrets! So, one more or less') etc. Each with various pencil and ink annotations and stamps etc., to the rectos and versos, relating to their publication, some in the French weekly magazine Ici Paris.     GUS: (1911-1997) Gustave Erlich. French comic Cartoonist. Well remembered for his publications in French newspapers Le Figaro, Le Canard Enchainé, and many others. Three excellent signed original watercolours, `Gus´, one page each, oblong folio, drawing paper, n.p., all dated in his hand, in French. Gus has drawn three amusing colourful sketches, the first dated 10th July 1974 shows a scale with an eagle with swastika on one of the plates and entitled to the lower white border ''Beate Klarsfeld Condamnée a Cologne'' (''Beate Klarsfeld Condemned in Cologne''); the second, dated 7th May 1985, shows a colourful ''big bang'' watercolour, entitled ''Anniversaire'' (''Anniversary'') on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the end of WWII; and the third and last is an attractive drawing showing a military tank painted half with the colours of the German flag and half with the French flag. The text states `Garde à vous, Achtung! - Brigade Franco-Allemande?´ (''Attention, Achtung! - Franco-German Brigade?''), dated 22nd June 1987. VG, 3 Beate Auguste Klarsfeld (1939- ) Franco-German Journalist, known as a Nazi hunter after her multiple investigations, together with her French husband, of Nazi war criminals, including Kurt Lischka or Klaus Barbie among others.

    GUS: (1911-1997) Gustave Erlich. French comic Cartoonist. Well remembered for his publications in French newspapers Le Figaro, Le Canard Enchainé, and many others. An excellent signed original watercolour, `Gus´, one page, oblong folio, drawing paper, n.p., dated 11th June 1985 in his hand, in French. Gus has drawn a funny sketch showing two East-Germany military guards, marching on the East side of the Berlin wall, with a large sign stating ''Libre Circulation Obligatoire'' (''Free circulation Obligatory''). To the lower white border Gus has added in bold black ink `Fabius - Fin de la visite a Berlin-Est´ (''Fabius - End of the visit to East-Berlin'') referring to Laurent Fabius (1946- ) French Prime Minister 1984-86, and to his visit to Berlin in June 1985. An excellent signed original watercolour, `Gus´, one page, oblong folio, drawing paper, n.p., 1st December 1989, in French. Gus has drawn a funny sketch showing George H. W. Bush offering a peace-pipe to Mikhail Gorbachev, with the legend `Malta - Meeting Gorbachev-Bush´ in his hand. The drawing shows both leaders seated on a carpet, drinking vodka and coke, Bush stating ''Pipe-peace. Old custom in our country''. VG

VG £80-100 On 1st and 2nd March 1982, General Jaruzelski visited Moscow and met twice Brezhnev. The first reinforced his lead, defended the workers national political party and supported USSR international and foreign affairs positions, and the second agreed against financial support.
