2 fashion ills., pencil on paper. Both 45 x 33 cm. “Femme Fatale”, signed "Eric 1937". 2 working sketches 'croquis' featuring the Schiaparelli des. evening gown from the collection “Rose Shocking". The finished ill. was publ. in Vogue 1 September 1937. In 1936, the Hollywood actress Mae West approached fashion designer Schiaparelli, the leading Parisian fashion designer of the 1920s and 30s after Coco Chanel, to design her Belle Époque wardrobe for the Paramount film “Every Day’s a Holiday”. West’s figure-hugging silhouette provoked a degree of outrage for provincial America. in response Schiaparelli des. a perfume, "Shocking", and she used West’s hourglass silhouette as the basis for the "Shocking" perfume bottle. The collection and perfume were launched in the fall of 1937. It was a sensation, ill. by Eric in Vogues’ Sept. 1 issue. The resulting collection together w. the perfume bottle serves as an iconic representation of both West and Schiaparelli. This work was featured on the cover of the September 1945 issue of "Vogue" magazine. Provenance: The Estate of Michaele Vollbracht, Safety Harbor, Florida. Michaele Vollbracht (1947-2018) was an artist and fashion designer working both under his own name and for other designers, notably Bill Blass Limited, Geoffrey Beene and Donald Brooks. Vollbracht was the designer of Bloomingdale's famous Face Bag, and recipient of the 1980 Coty Award. Gouache, watercolour, pastel and pencil on paper; 2. 'Glitter & Wineglass' (dresses by Lucian Lelong & Augusta Bernard resp.), 1934. Gouache and watercolour on paper, signed 'Eric' (lower right), both drawings stamped 'Drawing by Erickson' and 'Made in France. From the Paris office of Vogue', and with typed captions and stamped publication dates (on the reverse). 3. (Dress by Jacques Fath), 1947. Gouache on paper, signed 'Eric' (lower left), inscribed '5 Fath', illegibly titled and located 'Berghof' (lower right), inscribed 'Eric drawing', stamped 'Made in France' and with copyright stamp (on the reverse).
