    Jan Van Empel (Amsterdam/ Alaska, 1880-1940) Cottages by a Lake Jan Van Empel lived in and painted around both New England and Alaska. This scene of cottages situated around a pristine lake could be a view from either. The artist's work, displayed in a fine custom frame, is signed lower left. Sight size measures 24.75 x 29.75 with a framed size of 32.75 x 37.75 inches. AN ABSENTEE BID PLACED IN ADVANCE COULD LOSE TO A LIVE BID OF EQUAL AMOUNT PLACED LATER.     (2) Jan van Empel Figurative Painting & Drawing: Two Jan van Empel (Dutch 1930 - 1991), paintings: a) 1948, oil on paper painting titled, 'Maannacht (Moon Light)' depicting figures standing under a full moon reflected by water, signed, dated and titled in graphite by the artist in the margin. Dimensions are: sight - 9 3/8" high X 11 1/4" wide, framed - 13" high X 14 1/2" wide. b) c. 1967, double-sided ink and oil pastel sketch depicting various figures on a letter addressed to Empel from Drs. F. del. Vries at the Stichting de Utrechtse Kring - The Utrecht Art Association. the letter is in regards to Empel's inclusion in 1968 exhibition and reads: December 9, 1967, Geachte heer van Empel, Graag bevestig ik hierbij nog even de afspraak die wij telefonisch maakten on een aantal van uw laatse schilderijen te exposeren gedurende de periode van 20 januari t/m 7 febuari '68. Zoals ik u reeds mededeelde, wordt tovens wenk van Utrechtse grafici geexoseerd, maar niet van ander Utrechtse schilders.
