      RURAL FAMILY. (Probably New Portland, Maine) Chansonetta Stanley Emmons (CT/ME, 1858-1937). Probably a silver bromide original photograph of an interior view showing housekeeper and family. Housed in a modern ebonized molded frame matted under glass. Signed by the artist on lower left. Chansonetta had two brothers who were prolific and successful inventors, they produced the Stanley Steamer; one of the first successful steam driven autos. They also invented the Stanley Photographic Dry Plate, which they sold to Kodak. Chansonetta was a gifted artist and photographer who captured image of rural Maine in the early 20th century, always depicting images without signs of the 20th century; such as electricity poles, autos etc. Her images appeared as if they were done in the mid 19th century. SIZE: Image is 4 3/8" x 6 3/8". Overall is 12 1/2" x 14 1/4". CONDITION: generally very good. (05-389/TG). $500-1,000.

      FARMERS KITCHEN. (Probably New Portland, Maine) Chansonetta Stanley Emmons (CT/ME, 1858-1937). This probable silver bromide image is signed by the photographer and dated "1921". An image of a working fireplace with spit, oven, pots and table with open shelf displaying plates, cooking molds and utensils. A wood bin is seen within brick wall. Housed in a modern ebonized frame matted under glass. Chansonetta had two brothers who were prolific and successful inventors, they produced the Stanley Steamer; one of the first successful steam driven autos. They also invented the Stanley Photographic Dry Plate, which they sold to Kodak. Chansonetta was a gifted artist and photographer who captured image of rural Maine in teh early 20th century, always depicting images without signs of the 20th century; such as electricity poles, autos etc. Her images appeared as if they were done in the mid 19th century. SIZE: 4 1/2" x 6 1/2". Overall 12 1/2" x 14". CONDITION: very good. (05-388/TG). $500-1,000.

      FARMER. (Probably New Portland, Maine) Chansonetta Stanley Emmons (CT/ME, 1858-1937). This unsigned and unmarked photograph framed and matted under glass. We have not inspected the reverse of the photograph for any identification or markings. The photograph depicts a wonderful perspective of the sitter with full white beard seated in a chair wearing a shirt and vest. Chansonetta had two brothers who were prolific and successful inventors, they produced the Stanley Steamer; one of the first successful steam driven autos. They also invented the Stanley Photographic Dry Plate, which they sold to Kodak. Chansonetta was a gifted artist and photographer who captured image of rural Maine in teh early 20th century, always depicting images without signs of the 20th century; such as electricity poles, autos etc. Her images appeared as if they were done in the mid 19th century. SIZE: Sight is 9 3/4" x 7 3/4". Overall is 16" x 13 1/2". CONDITION: image is remarkably clear. Very good. (05-387/TG). $500-1,000.

      This lot features an original oil on canvas painting depicting a child sleeping in a meadow with a dog by Chansonetta Stanley Emmons (American 1858 - 1937). Emmons was an American photographer and painter. Emmons' brothers were inventors of both a dry-plate printing technique and the Stanley Steamer Automobile and supported her financially throughout her life and career. Emmons herself had an interest in photography and was probably more well known for this, however she was also a keen painter. A native of Maine, her works often feature images of rural life in Maine, children at play and families at home. The reverse of this piece features a personalized note reading, "Painted for my dear cousin Emily de Bacon Page in the year 1908 - By Chansonetta Stanley Emmons". Signed in stylized monogram "CSEmmons" lower left register. Measures 12" x 20". This piece comes from the Dickenson Estate of Knoxville, Tennessee. See Photos for Details. Shipping Available.

      oil on canvas, signed at lower right, presented in a gilt frame. SS 13.5 x 14.25 in.; DOA 19.5 x 20.25 in. This painting is after a photographs by Emmons of Joann G. True (1823-1901) of New Portland, Maine. In addition to this painting, the image exists as a glass plate negative, a hand-colored glass lantern slide, a photo print (published in her book "The Old Table Chair") and also as an oil painting currently in the Maine State Museum collection.

      EMMONS, CHANSONETTA STANLEY (ME/MA, 1858-1937), Large Format Silver Bromide Photograph of a Canoeist on a Lake, marked verso with her name, Kingfield, Maine, 1909. In original oak frame, matted and glazed. OS: 22 1/2" x 25 1/2", SS: 15 3/4" x 16 1/2". Fine condition. Her brothers Francis & Freeman invented the dry plate method of photography, which sparked her interest in the medium. They then went on to invent the Stanley Steamer automobile, their museum is in Kingfield.
