After studying at the American Academy of Art, painter Gil Elvgren's career took off when he began working for big-name companies such as Brown and Bigelow, Coca-Cola, and General Electric. Elvgren's pieces portrayed the ideal female at the time, and his work was in high demand. 

Though most commonly associated with evocative images of pin-up girls, artist Gil Elvgren also painted typical American families and military scenes from WWII and the Korean War.
