A important woodblock print depicting a famous passage from the ninth chapter of "The Tales of Ise", a masterpiece of the Japanese literature. Here, Narihira, tired of her wordly life in the capital, leaves home with two close friends in search of a peaceful existence in the Eastern provinces. This print is the central part of a triptych which the whole can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (Accession Number: JP1789).. Cm 20,00 x 30,00.

      Rekisentei Eiri (Active 1790-1800). Procession of a Young Nobleman and his Suite. Oban pentaptych, mounted on heavy wove paper. Signed on each sheet, lower right or left. Circa 1796. MEASUREMENTS: 14-1/8" x 48-3/8". Overall with frame 23-1/2" x 57-1/2". CONDITION: Tear to mounting paper at top edge and right side. Some fading and rubs. Scattered repaired worm holes.
