Note: The present lot will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from V.A. Petrov, dated June 15, 2007. Sergei Semenovitch Egornov (RUSSIAN, 1860-1920) Sergei Egornov was born in 1860 in Moscow. From 1879 to 1881, studied at an art school in St. Petersburg. In 1881, entered the Imperial Academy of Arts, graduating in 1891. As a student, he received two small and two large silver medals, and in 1889 a small gold medal for his painting ""The Apostles Peter and John heal the lame from birth."" In 1900 he was awarded artist of the first degree for his painting ""Queen Alexandra asks St. George to take her to Christianity.” Since 1890, Egornov participated in many group exhibitions; he was an active participant in the exhibition of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists. His first solo exhibition took place in St. Petersburg in 1904. Egornov was interested in antiquity, in 1911, he exhibited dance during a feast in ancient Rome at the St. Petersburg Society of Artists, and in 1913, he showcased Roman Bathers. Condition: Paint loss at upper right edge and two depressions along top center; small circular tear on the lady's skirt. The canvas is lined. Under the UV light, there is no apparent retouching. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
