James D. Egleson (1907 - 1982) Snow Covered Coastal Village Landscape

Oil on masonite, signed lower left, 12 1/4" x 15 3/4" sight, framed to 13" x 16 3/4".   Egleson was born in Quebec and immigrated to New Jersey with his family as a child.  He studied engineering at Swarthmore College and MIT, worked for the WPA as an illustrator, painter and muralist during the Great Depression, and served as an officer in the US Navy during WW2.  Egleson lived and worked as an illustrator and in television in the NYC area.

The etching, pencil marked 7/100, titled dated and signed, 8" x 12" sight, matted to 14" x 18"; the sketch on thick paper, dated with signature and in top right corner of the paper, image size 7" x 11", paper size 10 3/4" 14 1/2". From the Estate of Henry L. Ferguson of Bloomfield, Connecticut, who represented the artist.
