    Numbered and dated. Franz Eggenschwiler (* 9 December 1930 in Solothurn; † 12 July 2000 in Bern) was a Swiss artist. Franz Eggenschwiler attended primary school in Biberist. After an apprenticeship as a glass painter from 1946 to 1951, he attended the Max von Mühlenen School of Painting in Bern from 1951 to 1953. From 1951 to 1968 he worked as a skilled glass painter for the Wüthrich company in Bern. From 1955 to 1971 he formed the "Berner Arbeitsgemeinschaft" with Peter Meier, Konrad Vetter and Robert Wälti. Initially he created paintings, sculptures and graphics. From 1967 he began to make objects and jewellery from found objects and waste. From 1971 he participated in the "Radiergemeinschaft Osterath" in Meerbusch-Osterath, founded by Holger Runge. In 1972 he was a participant in Documenta 5 in Kassel in the Individual Mythologies section. In 1973 he moved to Eriswil in Oberaargau, where he lived and worked until his death. For the 85th Catholic Congress in 1978 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Eggenschwieler created a metre-high wooden cross in a metal lattice structure, which has stood on the Hirzberg on the forest road from the Schlossberg to St. Ottilien since 1979. From 1981 to 1995 he was a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. He was married to Rosemarie Eggenschwiler-Wiggli (1932-2019), who was also an artist and the younger sister of Oscar Wiggli. After an apprenticeship as a glass painter from 1946 to 1951, he attended the Max von Mühlenen School of Painting in Bern from 1951 to 1953. From 1951 to 1968 he worked as a skilled glass painter for the Wüthrich company in Bern. From 1955 to 1971 he formed the "Berner Arbeitsgemeinschaft" with Peter Meier, Konrad Vetter and Robert Wälti. Initially he created paintings, sculptures and graphics. From 1967 he began to make objects and jewellery from found objects and waste. From 1971 he participated in the "Radiergemeinschaft Osterath" in Meerbusch-Osterath, founded by Holger Runge. In 1972 he was a participant in Documenta 5 in Kassel in the Individual Mythologies section. In 1973 he moved to Eriswil in Oberaargau, where he lived and worked until his death. For the 85th Catholic Congress in 1978 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Eggenschwieler created a metre-high wooden cross in a metal lattice structure, which has stood on the Hirzberg on the forest road from the Schlossberg to St. Ottilien since 1979. From 1981 to 1995 he was a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. He was married to Rosemarie Eggenschwiler-Wiggli (1932-2019), who was also an artist and the younger sister of Oscar Wiggli. Comes from the collection of the municipality of The Hague, The Netherlands.
