        "Sisters & Lovers"; abstract acrylic and gold leaf on canvas; signed lower right "Eder"; verso of canvas dated 2001 and with artist name, media, title; 10"W, 14"H; good condition---Earl Eder, born 1944 in Poplar, Montana, is a recognized Yanktonai Sioux painter and sculptor. He is commonly known for his carvings and sculptors, and his paintings are more scarce. He is a graduate of the first class of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After studying at the IAIA, Eder continued his studies at the San Francisco Art Institute where he received a BFA in sculpture in 1970. He was a key figure in the contemporary Indian art movement in Santa Fe during the 1960s and 70s. His works are included in the collections of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, DC, the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ, and the IAIA Museum in Santa Fe, NM. (Ref. 10)

        Very nice painting. 21" by 22.5". Earl Eder, born 1944 in Poplar Montana, is a recognized Yanktonai Sioux painter and sculptor. He is a graduate of the first class of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After studying at the IAIA, Eder continued his work at the San Francisco Art Institute. He was a key figure in the contemporary Indian art movement in Santa Fe during the 1960s. His works are included in the collections of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, DC, the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ and the IAIA Museum in Santa Fe, NM. Earl says, "After many art changes since childhood, I am still changing. Being more aware of my tradition and ethnic background, I use ideas and designs to incorporate my own experiences through painting…When I paint, I become a spirit. You have to give every painting living magic so that it affects people when they read into it."
