        Native American, Canada, Nunavik, Port Harrison / Inukjuak, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE. An attractive and rare soapstone carving by Peter Echalook (Inuit, b. 1946) featuring 3 sides carved with relief images of an ice fisherman, a seal, and a mother and child seemingly sharing one hood. Each of the figures are simply sculpted with minimal detail but starkly stand out from the ground which has been meticulously carved with zigzag striations giving it a white appearance resembling snow. The underside is signed with Peter Echalook's disc number, E9-1587.
