William Dwyer Art for Sale and Sold Prices

Artist, b. 1904 -

William (Bill) E. Dwyer was largely self-taught, did not become an artist until he was about 50 years old. He was perhaps the most colorful person that one might ever meet. He claimed that when someone bought a painting from him and hung it on their wall back home that when neighbors would come over and mention the painting that the buyer wouldn't discuss the painting, but instead would say something like "yeah, but let me tell you about the guy who painted it." Dwyer said that what he was selling wasn't the painting, it was a story, the story about meeting him. I believe it because I watched him sell for many years, as I am his son.He was born on June 4, 1904 and when he was six months old he won a contest for being the largest baby in the city of New Orleans; he weighed 30lbs. Everything about him was larger than life.He was married five times, maybe six, but I'm his only child. My mother, Victoria Flemming was also an artist, and she developed a line of porcelain jewelry.
