Rembrandt Van Rijn (1606-1669) after by Amand Durand, Dutch (1606 - 1669) titled The Windmill. After the original, which was impressed in 1641. This piece was impressed in the Late 18th century by French Engraver and painter Charles Amand Durand, (1831-1905). He is recognized and praised for accomplishing the difficult task of renewing the original copper plate designs made by Rembrandt. It is because of Amand that many of Rembrandt's works were saved. He also restored plates by Albrecht Durer, Beham, and other various Old Masters from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. The task started when the main curator of the Louvre gave Amand Durand the important mission of restoring the worn down and fragile engravings made by Rembrandt. This is a modern printing from the Durand plates. The etching, image Size is 6 x 8 inches. It is double matted and framed under glass, in a metallic frame. The entire piece with frame measures 11 inches x 13 inches. Acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate.
