She was first introduced to P.E.I. at the age of 13 by her father, who was from the island, and she eventually moved there in 1979, where she has lived ever since. Until 1983 Stevenson worked primarily in pastel and began painting with acrylics in 1984. She has had several solo exhibitions of large format paintings in both P.E.I. and Montreal, Quebec, and has designed several exhibit installations, the largest being "Our Island Home" at Borden-Carleton in conjunction with the bridge opening.
