      USS Madison and The Battle of Fort George - Signed Manuscript Letter from Jesse Duncan Elliot (1782 - 1845) to Callendar Irvine (1775 -1841), Commissary General during the War of 1812. Also included is an additional clipped signature from JD Elliot. The letter, written from the U.S. Ship Madison is dated May 29th 1813 from the Niagara River and states "I have again the satisfaction to inform you of another...victory... Fort George is ours with a moderate purchase the loss of 15 men killed & 60 wounded, the enemies 65 killed..." Over the course of the two and a half handwritten pages, he details troop movements and numbers and the goings-on of The Battle of Fort George, which took place on May 25-27th of 1813. He mentions Henry Dearborn, as well as Major Lewis and Col. Scott (Winfield "Old Fuss And Feathers" Scott). From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
