PIERRE JEAN DUMONT (France, 1884- 1936). Untitled. Oil on canvas. It presents blow with breakage in the left superior zone and faults in pictorial layer that do not affect the central motive. Scene of work the author presents us an image of impressionist heritage, in which the pictorial matter defines the whole scenario, determining a landscape of colors, reflections and shades full of vibration and expressiveness. Pierre Jean Baptiste Louis Dumont, better known as Pierre Dumont, was a French painter of the Rouen School. He studied at the Lycée Pierre-Corneille and later studied painting with Joseph Delattre. Dumont founded the Groupe des XXX (1907) and, together with Robert Antoine Pinchon, Yvonne Barbier and Eugène Tirvert, founded the Société Normande de Peinture Moderne (1909). From 1910 to 1916, Dumont lived in Le Bateau-Lavoir and became friends with Juan Gris, Max Jacob and Guillaume Apollinaire. During this period he turned towards Cubism and played a crucial role in the organization of the Salon de la Section d'Or at the Galerie La Boétie in Paris. Pierre Jean Dumont (1884-1936), "Le Pont Boïeldieu", ca. 1910

      Est: €4,000 - €5,000

Oil on canvas Rouen, France, around 1910 Pierre Jean Dumont (1884-1936) - French impressionist Signed lower left "Pierre Dumont" Beautiful view of an active harbor scene Dimensions: 66 x 80 cm Rouen and its harbour are a recurring motif in Pierre Dumont's oeuvre; comparable artworks fetch up to 17,000 Euros in international auctions. This impressionistic view of a harbor scene "Le Pont Boïeldieu" by the French artist Pierre Jean Dumont was painted in oil around 1910. It is one of several depictions that Dumont created of the harbor in Rouen. With quick and broad brushstrokes Dumont skillfully depicts an impression of Rouen's active harbor. Pierre Dumont succeeds in giving this depiction of the harbor and the outlines of his home town a sentimental value, which is communicated to the viewer. Only a few years prior, Camille Pissarro also dedicated a series of artworks to Rouen's harbor. The painting is in original condition. The canvas shows a few small holes and one small tear. There is some craquelure and the canvas shows material loss where mounted to the stretcher frame. The canvas shows one patch on the back. The dimensions are: 66 x 80 cm. It is signed in the lower left hand corner with "Pierre Dumont". Pierre Jean Dumont (1884-1936) Pierre Dumont was born in Paris in 1884, but when his father was appointed the professor of natural history at Rouen's University the family moved there. He studied at the "Académie Impressioniste" under Joseph Delattre, where he also exhibited his work as from 1906 onwards. He mostly painted Rouen, where he worked and lived all his life until his death in 1936.
