A.L.S., Arthur, two pages, 8vo, The Palace, Stockholm, 21st October 1905, to Rennell Rodd. The Duke thanks his correspondent for their letter '& for the information you gave me & which I will keep to myself for the present' and adds that he proposes attending the English church tomorrow, enquiring at what time the service is and how far the church is from the Palace, remarking 'I expect that we shall be a party of about 7, as I think Prss. Marhgaret will come too'. With blank integral leaf. Together with a second A.L.S., Arthur, one page, 8vo, The Palace, [Stockholm], 24th October 1905, also to Rennell Rodd. The Duke thanks Rodd for their letter 'from which it would look as Pr. A.L.S., Arthur, two pages, 8vo, Bagshot Park, Surrey, 10th January 1897, to [Frederick] Verney. The Duke confirms that both he and the Duchess would be very pleased to receive the Prince of Siam, although continues 'owing to a great many engagements this week I find it very difficult to settle a day & I therefore propose walking over to see you this afternoon to discuss the best way of receiving the Prince'. Together with Earl of Kimberley (1826-1902) British Politician, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 1894-95. A.N.S., with his initial K, one page, 8vo, n.p., 11th July 1886, to an unidentified correspondent, in full, 'I should be glad to have a copy of this to send to Lord Dufferin'. Also including Earl of Clanwilliam (1795-1879) British Diplomat & Politician. A.L.S., Clanwilliam, one page, 4to, Regent Street, n.d., to a gentleman, evidently an artist, enquiring as to whether he has 'been enabled to finish the picture of the Duke of Wellington' and asking for it to be sent up to town before he returns.         [ARTHUR, DUKE OF CONNAUGHT]: (1850-1942) British Military officer, son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Governor General of Canada 1911-16. A highly attractive large folio (14 x 31) document presented to the Duke of Connaught by the Corporation of the town of Calcutta upon the auspicious occasion of his entry into Calcutta ('the most populous and most important dependency of the British crown') along with his wife, 3rd December 1883, stating, in part, 'This is the third time within the last few years that the loyalty of the inhabitants of this great city to their Most Gracious and Beloved Sovereign has been evoked by the presence in their midst of one of Her Illustrious Sons; but on the present occasion our gratification is enhanced by the knowledge that Your Royal Highness has come to this country to make it Your residence and the scene of Your devotion to the noble profession You have embraced.....For the first time a Princess of the Royal Family now visits this historic land, and we can assure Your Royal Highness that the enthusiasm which Her presence has already evoked in all the Indian cities and places through which Her Royal Highness has passed, will be fully equalled by that which will greet her in Calcutta. Our fervent wish is that Your Royal Highness's sojurn in this country may be blessed with every happiness, and may in after years, be looked back upon by you both with pleasure, linked with kindly memories of India and its people'. Signed at the foot by W. L. Harrison, Chairman of the Corporation of the Twon of Calcutta. The head of the document is finely decorated in various vibrant colours with the Prince's Coat of Arms encased by a wide variety of flowers, the borders of the document bearing further attractive decorations.
