The border, of complex oriental design with bright colours, includes pictures of the founders of the bank: Huynh Dinh Khiem (on the left) and Tran Trinh Trach (on the right). Text in Vietnamese. The bank, founded 1927 in Saigon, was the first bank in today's Vietnam founded and managed by Vietnamese (as opposed to colonial expats). The bank was to provide loans to local farmers and improve their living situation. All this in the spirit of the Vietnam nationalist movement which, from the mid-1920s onwards, sought independence from French colonial rule. As evidenced by this share, the bank continued to thrive until at least the 1970s. Never before seen by us.
