      Est: €4,000 - €5,000

Oil on canvas, laid down on hardboard Morocco, late 20th century Mohamed Drissi (1946-2003) - Moroccan painter, printmaker and sculptor Signed with 'Drissi' in Arabic and script lower right Dimensions: 58.2 x 40.5 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany Mohamed Drissi is one of the most important artists of Morocco; his paintings have sold for up to €90,000 at international auctions The abstract-expressive painting by Mohamed Drissi (1946-2003) shows a naked woman with a child in her arms executed in the artist's characteristic reduced and symbolic style of painting. Black contour lines, deformed body parts and mask-like faces determine the two figures. Drissi was keen to capture all emotional facets of human existence in all its poignancy. He lined up in an art historical tradition that had broken ground with the works of the German Expressionists. The painting is signed with 'Drissi' in Arabic and script lower right. It is in good condition, showing some soiling to the paint surface and wear affecting the frame. The overall dimensions are 60 x 42 cm, and the hardboard measures 58.2 x 40.5 cm. Mohamed Drissi (1946-2003) Mohamed Drissi was born in the Moroccan city of Tétouan in 1946 and is considered one of the most original painters of his generation. He studied art in Tétouan, Paris, Barcelona, Brussels and New York. His favorite subject was the 'human being' and especially the taboo topic of prostitution. In this context, Drissi painted a colorful variety of abstract-expressive paintings of mostly androgynous women's bodies and mask-like heads. However, the faces of Drissi's figures reflect the full range of human emotions, which are enhanced by the postures and gestures. The expressive power in Drissi's works is reminiscent of the great German Expressionists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Otto Mueller. The works of Egon Schiele and Edward Munch are also brought to mind. Drissi's works fetch record prices at international auctions. The Gallery Mohamed Drissi in Tangier, a contemporary art museum, presents some of his works. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Oil on canvas Morocco, late 20th Century Mohamed Drissi (1946-2003) - Moroccan painter, graphic artist and sculptor Signed lower right 'Drissi' in Arabic and script Overall dimensions, framed: 91 x 64 cm Very good condition Provenance: German private collection In this work, the most important representative of the 'art marocain' interprets the popular art historical subject of The Three Graces in a contemporary context; Drissi's paintings fetch up to 90,000 Euro at international auctions This oil painting by Mohamed Drissi (1946-2003) - a prominent representative of the 'art marocain' - depicts a familiar art historical motif: The Three Graces. However, the latter have not been idealized, but captured in an expressive and forceful manner. Contrary to the well-known classical depictions, the women's nude bodies are sharply outlined and their mask-like faces are distorted. Drissi deals here with the subject of prostitution, a recurring motif in his oeuvre, yet a topic that remains a taboo in Moroccan society. The painting is signed lower right 'Drissi' in Arabic and in script. The condition of the painting is very good with only minor signs of wear. The canvas is mounted on a thin hardboard plate. The frame is a little chipped on the front side and the edges. The overall dimensions, framed, are 91 x 64 cm. The board measures 81 x 53.5 cm. Mohamed Drissi (1946-2003) Mohamed Drissi was born in the Moroccan city of Tétouan in 1946 and is considered one of the most original painters of his generation. He studied art in Tétouan, Paris, Barcelona, Brussels and New York. His favourite subject matter was the 'human being' and especially the taboo topic of prostitution. In this context, Drissi painted a colourful variety of abstract-expressive paintings of mostly androgynous women's bodies and mask-like heads. However, the faces of Drissi's figures reflect the full range of human emotions, which are enhanced by the postures and gestures. The expressive power in Drissi's works are reminiscent of the great German Expressionists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Otto Mueller. The works of Egon Schiele and Edward Munch are also brought to mind. Drissi's works fetch record prices at international auctions. The Gallery Mohamed Drissi in Tangier, a contemporary art museum, presents some of his works.

This artwork by the Moroccan artist Mohamed Drissi convinces with its expressive use of the colours red and black. A highly stylized male head defined with a linear pattern reminds of a traditional African mask. The linear pattern is extended into the depiction of the hair, which are single streaks that appear to stick out of the male's head. The expression of the image is somewhere between frightening and amusing as the large round eyes in black and red give the figure a hint of something diabolical. The work is in very good condition. It is signed in the lower right hand corner. The black mat measures 30 x 40 cm and the sheet measures 23.5 x 28 cm.
